The High Court of England has issued an injunction against computer scientist Craig Wright, prohibiting him from filing further defamation lawsuits.

In the ruling on May 12, High Court Judge Edward Mellor stated that Wright's repeated false statements and aggressive legal actions created a legal "hell" for individuals and developers in the Bitcoin (BTC) community, adding that Wright attempted to "weaponize the legal system" to intimidate and suppress critics.

The judge added that his lawsuit forced people to engage in costly and time-consuming legal defenses, which often relied on fabricated evidence. Therefore, the court issued a general civil restraining order prohibiting Wright from filing any further civil claims or applications in the High Court.

The court emphasized that this strategy is a pattern of abusing the legal system to support its false claims of being Satoshi Nakamoto.

"Clearly, Dr. Wright has had substantial financial backing from the very beginning of his actions, and his defamation claims have deliberately created an unequal adversarial situation," said Judge Mellor.

The Crypto Open Patent Alliance ( COPA ) filed a lawsuit in 2021 seeking a declaratory judgment and injunctive relief because Wright issued threats against its members, including crypto blogger Peter McCormack and Magnus Granath (also known as Hodlonaut).

"His defamation claim has made everyone endure five years of personal hell," Mellor wrote, adding that the allegations "are part of a carefully orchestrated strategy by Dr. Wright and his supporters to establish Dr. Wright as Satoshi Nakamoto through an unequal contest."

COPA is a non-profit community organization aimed at promoting the adoption and development of cryptocurrency technology, and eliminating patents as barriers to innovation.

The threats received by its members "have created a serious chilling effect on the development and innovation of the cryptocurrency industry," said Judge Mellor.

"Dr. Wright's actions not only affected the individuals he sued," he continued. "but also caused serious harm to innovation in an important technology sector."

In March last year, the High Court of England ruled that Craig Wright is not the author of the Bitcoin white paper, did not use the pseudonym Satoshi Nakamoto, and did not participate in the creation of Bitcoin.

In July, Wright published a legal disclaimer on his website, explicitly stating that he is not the anonymous founder of Bitcoin.

In December last year, this Australian computer scientist was sentenced to one year of probation in the UK for contempt of court.

In the "fake Satoshi" controversy over the past decade, Wright has also filed defamation lawsuits against Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin and Bitcoin pioneer Adam Back.
