Ripple CEO Discussed XRP ETF Potential Months Before the Hype

A video shared by Crypto X AiMan has reminded the community about the comments Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse made back in October 2024 at DC Fintech Week. This has created fresh discussion about the future of XRP and the potential for exchange-traded funds (ETFs).

What Garlinghouse Said About ETFs

In the interview segment, Garlinghouse spoke about the broader crypto ETF market. He pointed to the popularity of Bitcoin ETFs after their U.S. launch in January 2024, noting they attracted around $17 billion in inflows. This, he said, was the fastest-growing ETF in history and showed there is strong demand from both institutions and retail investors for crypto exposure.

Garlinghouse then addressed XRP directly. He said interest in XRP ETFs has been growing, with “two or three” filings already in progress. In his view, an XRP ETF is inevitable, and ETFs beyond Bitcoin and Ethereum are only a matter of time.

He also mentioned the rise of “basket” ETFs that include multiple cryptocurrencies, which he believes will help bring more institutional participation to the market. According to him, this kind of demand will create upward pressure on prices for many crypto assets, including XRP.

The Community’s Take on His Comments

The second part of the video is a breakdown from the creator, who interprets Garlinghouse’s remarks as a signal to hold XRP ahead of major events in 2025. The narrator links ETF approvals to possible sharp price increases and speculates that they could arrive within months.

They also highlight a list of institutions that have applied for XRP ETFs, including Bitwise, Grayscale, 21Shares, Canary Capital, WisdomTree, CoinShares, VanEck, Fidelity, Ark Invest, and Franklin Templeton. According to the narrator, major asset managers like BlackRock could eventually join this list, although no official BlackRock XRP ETF filing exists today.

The creator also points out connections between Ripple executives and BlackRock representatives, such as speaking at the same industry events. These links are presented as signs of potential collaboration, though no formal announcements have been made.

Where Things Stand Now

While several XRP ETF filings are pending with the SEC as of August 2025, none have been approved yet. The timing and outcome remain uncertain, and claims of guaranteed approval are speculative.

Garlinghouse’s comments from 2024 show that Ripple’s leadership sees ETFs as an important step in XRP’s future. Whether that vision becomes reality will depend on regulatory decisions and market conditions in the months ahead.
