Sony's Layer2 public chain 'Soneium' Mainnet officially goes live

As a leader in the Japanese electronics and entertainment industry, Sony has now joined the wave of exploring blockchain technology. On Tuesday, the 78-year-old electronics giant announced the official launch of its Ethereum Layer2 blockchain 'Soneium' Mainnet.

"Soneium" is jointly launched by Sony Group and Singapore Web3 infrastructure developer Startale Labs. The two parties have also established a joint venture called "Sony Block Solutions Labs (SBSL)" for this purpose.

Soneium launched the testnet in August last year, accumulating over 15.4 million active wallet addresses and surpassing 50 million transactions. These data not only demonstrate the explosive power of the Soneium ecosystem but also lay a solid foundation for the launch of the Mainnet.

The SBSL team described Soneium as a "highly flexible general-purpose Blockchain platform" that can support a diverse ecosystem of applications, including games, finance, and entertainment, providing users with stronger technical support. The official statement mentioned:

Soneium is developed using OP Stack and Superchain, dedicated to breaking down the barriers between Web2 and Web3, and creating a more inclusive, convenient, and creative platform.

According to the introduction, Soneium is specifically designed for content creators, fans, and various communities, with the core goal of solving the insufficient protection of creators' rights and the unequal value distribution between creators and fans. To this end, Sony has launched a fan marketing platform based on NFTs, as well as the Soneium Spark incubation program.

SBSL stated that with the successful launch of the Mainnet, the company will continue to explore new frameworks and applications to integrate digital and physical user experiences, thereby expanding the influence of Soneium.
