A new digital yuan trial is starting in China, which is by far the most developed country in the world regarding CBDCs. According to the statement, passengers using the subway will be able to make their payments with CBDC even if their phones do not have an operator connection and even if the charge is exhausted.
In China, which has been constantly advancing in the trials of central bank digital currencies (CBDCs) that it started in 2020 and is making new trials every day, now telephone transportation payment tests have started.
Some subway stations in the country's Quingdao city will begin to accept digital yuan payments. The trials, initiated by a joint effort between the Digital Currency Research Institute, the Bank of China (PBOC), and the city's municipal transportation directorate, will be funded by China Telecom and China Unicom, as well as a firm called Digital Finance Public Services.
