White House Officials Meet with Leaders of the Encryption Industry: Harris Camp Intensifies Efforts to Pump the Encryption Community
Recently, important officials from the White House held another meeting with executives from the encryption industry, drawing widespread attention. On Thursday morning Eastern Time, a California Democratic congressman organized an online roundtable discussion, with participants including the Deputy Secretary of the Treasury, the Director of the National Economic Council, the Deputy Chief of Staff at the White House, and senior advisors and legislative affairs directors for Vice President Harris, among other key government officials.
In the encryption industry, there were executives and founders from several well-known companies attending the conference, including leaders from a payment company, a decentralized exchange, a development foundation, a stablecoin issuing company, as well as several technology investors and former government officials.
It is reported that the meeting discussed the application scenarios and policy impacts of the encryption industry, including regulatory focus and the effects on employment and the economy. Although some participants expressed dissatisfaction, the overall atmosphere remained positive. A source revealed that government officials showed strong interest in the encryption industry; despite the small scale of the meeting, it was particularly significant due to the participation of high-ranking officials.
The Chief Legal Officer of a major cryptocurrency exchange platform called on the White House to support legislative regulation of the cryptocurrency industry at the meeting. He emphasized: "Current policies are ineffective, and any dialogue that goes beyond the status quo is positive. The White House should publicly support the bipartisan market structure bill passed by the Senate and sign it into law."
At the same time, the pro-Harris encryption advocacy group "Crypto4Harris" plans to hold a meeting next week, inviting several industry leaders to speak. The organization stated that a group of industry leaders, policy experts, and encryption enthusiasts are coming together to support Harris while promoting policy positions that favor the United States in maintaining a leading position in the digital asset space.
It is worth noting that Harris has recently added two former encryption advisors to her campaign team, which is seen as a positive signal regarding her attitude towards the encryption industry. These two advisors have held important positions at well-known encryption companies, and their addition will undoubtedly bring professional insights to Harris's development of encryption policies.
Analysts point out that the 2024 U.S. election will be the first time encryption issues play an important role in the election. Currently, the Republican Party has taken measures to attract the encryption community, while the Harris camp is also taking active steps. An international think tank stated that Harris needs to formulate her own encryption stance, or she may risk handing this area over to the Republicans.
The think tank also pointed out that despite the United States lagging behind other regions in encryption regulation, Harris still has the opportunity to regain control of the situation. By supporting existing encryption-related legislation, Harris may attract some votes and donations from encryption supporters in key battleground states.
Currently, prediction market data shows that Harris is very close to his main opponent in terms of winning probability in the election. The two have agreed to hold a televised debate on September 10, and whether encryption topics can become the focus of the debate is worth paying attention to. As the election campaign enters a heated stage, encryption policy may become one of the important factors affecting the election situation.
