New York State plans to impose a 0.2% tax on Crypto Assets and NFT transactions, specifically for anti-drug programs in schools.

According to reports, New York State legislator Phil Steck has proposed Bill 8966, which aims to impose a 0.2% sales tax on the sale and transfer of Crypto Assets and NFT, with the revenue earmarked for school drug abuse prevention programs.

The bill needs to be approved by the state legislative committee before it takes effect, and then submitted to a vote by the entire legislature, ultimately receiving the governor's signature. If passed before September 1st, the bill will take effect immediately and could bring significant tax revenue to New York State.
