The new trend of Web3 social games is merging; GameID may become the key to breaking the deadlock.
Exploring the Integration of Web3 Social and Gaming
1. The Essence of Decentralized Social Networking
Socializing is a fundamental human need, establishing social relationships through information transmission and interaction. Traditional social platforms, while meeting basic needs, have user data and behavior controlled by the platform, lacking true autonomy. Decentralized social networking aims to use blockchain technology to give users ownership of their identity and data sovereignty, achieving a more free and open way of socializing.
However, decentralized social networking currently faces the issues of insufficient traffic and application scenarios. How to attract more users to migrate and provide appealing application scenarios is a pressing problem that needs to be solved.
2. Games: The Natural Carrier of Social Interaction
Games provide a good interactive scene for socializing, breaking through the limitations of time and space to allow players to establish connections. From early MMO games to recent virtual concerts, the strong social attributes of games are evident.
GameFi aims to enable players to truly own game assets through technologies such as NFTs. However, to achieve interoperability of assets, a unified identity system is needed, namely GameID. It records players' experiences and assets across various games, becoming a bridge that connects different gaming worlds.
III. Several Models of Integration between Social and Gaming
Player profile based on GameID 3.1
Representative projects: Carv, DeQuest, Arche, etc.
These types of projects aggregate players' on-chain data, game assets, and other information to form a comprehensive player profile. This can help players showcase their achievements and assist game developers and guilds in filtering players.
3.2 Cross-platform social tool
Representative projects: XMTP, Web3MQ, Swapchat, etc.
These projects offer decentralized communication protocols or plugins to achieve cross-platform instant messaging functionality. They can seamlessly connect different Web3 application scenarios.
3.3 NFT Interoperable Games
Representative projects: Arcade, Worldwide Webb, Big Brawl, etc.
Allow players to bring their own NFTs into the game for use, increasing the practical value of NFTs while also expanding social scenarios.
3.4 Web2-based Mini Games
Representative projects: Mask Extension, Non-Fungible Friend, etc.
Similar to the early QQ Farm model, leveraging existing social networks to spread lightweight games.
3.5 AI-driven virtual relationships
Representative projects: rct AI, Mirror World, GiroGiro, etc.
Use AI technology to create intelligent NPCs or virtual lives, providing players with a richer interactive experience.
IV. Outlook
The integration of social interactions and gaming will bring significant opportunities to Web3, with the potential to break through the current traffic bottleneck. In the future, more innovative models may emerge, reshaping people's social interactions and experiences in the virtual world.
