Odaily Planet Daily News Forvis Mazars chief economist George Lagarias told CNBC on Thursday that although no one can guarantee the size of the rate cut at the upcoming Fed meeting, he "firmly" stands in the camp calling for a 25 basis point rate cut. Lagarias said, "I don't think there is an urgent need for a 50 basis point rate cut. A 50 basis point rate cut could send the wrong message to the market and the economy. As is well known, an economic recession could be a self-fulfilling prophecy, so it would be very dangerous for them to do so without a specific reason. Unless something happens to unsettle the market, there is no need to cause panic." (Jinshi)
